The violent corona pandemic that has ravaged India this year has killed tens of thousands of people. But several thousand of those who survived soon returned to the hospitals with a horrible fungal infection called mucormycosis.
Patients complain of everything from blurred vision to drooping eyelids or runny nose. Most vulnerable are diabetics and people with weak immune systems. In many cases, the only treatment is to remove the fungus from the area that is infected, and that is often the eyes.
