The case passed into the hands of the Commission for the Conservation of Wild Life and Fisheries (FWC) since at the moment it is unknown where the animal came from and why it was loose on the streets of the city. .
The Police explained that the municipal law does not allow the possession of this type of exotic animals within the limits of the city, so it will be necessary to locate those responsible and determine how the kangaroo got there.
In a video also published on their social networks, you can see how the police officers carry the animal in their arms and introduce the “suspect” to the back of a patrol so that it can later be picked up by the FWC.
The Local 10 television network confirmed that the animal, which is not a native species of Florida, belongs to a resident of the area who kept it as a pet, a theory that the Police consider possible since the kangaroo seemed domesticated.
Florida authorities, who normally have to deal with crocodiles, alligators and snakes, this time faced a much friendlier species, although for many it has been “something never seen before.”
One of the agents who participated in the capture, Robert Norvis, indicated that when they received the call “they could not believe it” and that in his 26 years of service “he had never been faced with such a situation.”
“I have answered calls for snakes, some alligators at times, but I have never heard a kangaroo around here,” Norvis told this media outlet.
