“Art must comfort the anxious and cause concern to those in comfort,” reads the inscription with which Banksy handed over the lot for the auction.

The painting “Lenin in the Eyes” was created in 2004 and is a black and white portrait of the Russian revolutionary, depicted by the artist with a “Iroquois” hairstyle and an earring. In the upper left corner of the picture, painted on a spray board, is depicted a target in red.

Two more Banksy works were sold at auction the day before – “The sale ends today” for six million dollars and “Hummingbird” for two million dollars). The price of the sold paintings of the street artist is far from a record. For example, another of his works, called “Love in the Air,” was recently sold at auction by Sotheby’s for $ 12.9 million. And in March this year, his black-and-white work, Radical Change, was sold at auction to Christie’s in London for a record £ 16.75 million (€ 19.45 million) for the British Health Service.
