“Direct democracy in Bulgaria has died. Unfortunately, Bulgarians will never go to the polls again, and whoever tries to initiate it will be declared an idiot,” said former GERB MP Georgi on his Facebook account. Markov. Here is what else he wrote:
It is unbelievable, but it is a fact. The “Show of Fame” initiated a referendum for majoritarian elections in 2016. 2.5 million Bulgarians voted, as in the last parliamentary elections on April 4 (I was one of the voters in the referendum, because I was elected by a majority in the Grand National Assembly in the first round and because I was the first to submit a request for a referendum for majority elections – in the spring of 1993).
Five years after the referendum was initiated, the “Show of Fame” entered parliament with 50 deputies, and the winning GERB party with 75 deputies introduced a bill for majority elections – more than 120 votes. And suddenly it turned out that Bulgaria was missing this chance to break with the sinister proportional system imposed by the BSP in 1990.
Let’s see why:
– According to the “Show of Fame”, because 240 single-mandate constituencies had to be created. Come on, good morning! Well, that was clear back in 2016, when you initiated the referendum! Why didn’t you invite Misho Konstantinov to make them for you?
How is it that, only a few months after the fall of the first article of the Zhivkov Constitution in 1989 and after 45 years of communism, 200 single-mandate constituencies were created and in June 1990, in Bulgaria, 200 deputies were elected by majority in two rounds? So in 1990 we could make single-member districts 200 in a few months, and 31 years later we can’t make 240?
Not to mention that after five centuries of Turkish slavery, the first electoral law in Bulgaria is also a majority! After five centuries of Turkish slavery, we could make single-mandate areas, and now we can’t! But really – there is no such country!
– The other problem was that we needed a gentler parliament, a calmer one. Well, under communism, for 45 years he was just calm. We woke him up on December 14, 1989, tens of thousands of Sofia residents, removing the first member, so that the tanks would soon come!
– The third problem of the referendum was that the GERB party should not have it on the political map. You see – let’s delete GERB from the political map of Bulgaria! To erase the party that has won parliamentary elections five times in a row, four times in a row in its European elections, its leader has held the EU presidency and chairmanship of the Silk Road and is currently an elder in the EPP; to remove the mayors of GERB, to remove the municipal councilors and to erase nearly 1 million voters …
It’s all due to fear. See the figures: In 2009, at the insistence of President Georgi Parvanov, 31 majority deputies were elected in 31 single-member constituencies – one in each constituency. The result is – five seats of the MRF in the ethnic regions and 26 for GERB. The BSP is an absolute capo, as is the DSB, the dwarf party that killed the UDF.
But let’s see the last majority elections in Bulgaria only 2 years ago. Sorry if I’m verbose, but it has to be said. In two-round majority elections, GERB won mayoral seats in the following cities: Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas; Veliko Tarnovo, Stara Zagora, Nova Zagora, Sliven; Gabrovo, Sevlievo, Lovech, Teteven; Haskovo, Harmanli, Simeonovgrad, Dimitrovgrad; Kyustendil, Dupnitsa, Sapareva Banya, Petrich; Vratsa, Montana, Lom, Byala Slatina, Mizia; Pomorie, Byala, Lukovit, Ugyrchin; Kazanlak, Smolyan, Asenovgrad, Svishtov, Provadia, Panagyurishte; Ah, so much so that I became a geographer alongside the victories of GERB!
That’s why they don’t want majority elections, that’s why they lied to 2 million participants in the referendum and their voters!
In just two days, the tenth jubilee Bulgarian parliament after the changes was brutally simplified by the losers, who had forgotten themselves and behaved like winners. In just two days!
That is why I believe that this action showed that the losers in this Bulgarian parliament aim to destroy parliamentary democracy and give ground for the sole rule of President Radev. They want to destroy the prosecutor’s office in order to serve the oligarchs who pay them. Some of the rioters, after a long stay in Sofia, did not even learn to speak without an accent.
I have known Borissov before the others in GERB (since 1996). Finally, after 20 years of participation in the state life of Bulgaria, the man went on a well-deserved vacation. He has grandchildren, women still like him, he is going to watch European football matches (Cristiano Ronaldo lands in Budapest on June 11 and will stay in a hotel on the island of Margaret).
That is why I hope that the colleagues from GERB will not wait for him to invite them, because he cannot be responsible for everything, and to leave the defeated to talk to themselves in the parliament. They have a common language, to understand each other. GERB should not legitimize them in order to lose even its toughest voters. A parliamentary boycott is needed and participation in plenary is suspended. As much – as much!
LET THEM TAKE CARE TO SEE WHAT THEY CAN DO! TWO DAYS ARE COMING, THE TIME IS OURS!
