HUÁNUCO. The National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (Devida) invested S / 2 449 095.25 for the execution of the project to improve the plantain and banana production chain in the Castillo Grande district, Leoncio Prado province. The initiative, which will have a new high-density production system, aims to triple production per hectare.
In January, the Castillo Grande District Municipality, in charge of the execution, began work on 15 hamlets. The project supervisor, Javier Fabian, stated that the purpose is to serve 327 families with technical assistance and the installation of half a hectare of new plantain and banana plantations, thus adding 163.50 new hectares.
Fabián added that currently between eleven to twelve tons are produced with 1,100 plants per hectare. However, with a high-density system it will increase to 3,300 plants, increasing production to 40 tons. In this way, innovation will seek to triple production per hectare each year.
This system, likewise, reduces the cost of managing cultural work, because it reduces the amount of land under sowing. But, it is worth adding, that the method requires that the beneficiaries have a good fertilization plan according to the soil analysis, a good management of the crop and technical support is guaranteed.
It should be noted that the beneficiary villages are Papayal, Santa Rosa de Castilla, Huangana Pampa, La Curva, Merced de Locro, Nueva Altura, Venado Pampa, Capitán Soto Mejía, Manco Cápac, La Florida, Huayna Cápac, Picuruyacu, Monterrico, Moyano and Pachacútec . In addition, they are working on the installation of six hectares of seedbeds with the varieties of island, moquicho, silk, stick, inguiri, bellaco and sapino, INFOREGIÓN was informed.
