A third bear was rescued today by RIEW – Smolyan in less than 10 days. It was again found in the area of Chepelare near the main road Plovdiv – Smolyan, the eco-inspection announced.

During his rescue, employees from the TP State Forestry “Juniper” were also involved. According to the experts from RIEW-Smolyan, most likely the bear is a brother or sister of the one rescued on Friday, which was also found near the main road near Chelepelare.
Caught without anesthesia. So far no mother of the bears has been found.
The Ministry of Environment and Water has contacted the Four Paws Foundation and the bear is already traveling to the Dancing Bears Park in the village of Belitsa, where it will be housed and given the necessary care.
Even after the first case of a found bear, RIEW – Smolyan sent letters to the Regional Directorate of Forestry – Smolyan and South Central State Enterprise / SCC / to inspect the areas and to strengthen control under the Law on Hunting and Game Conservation and verification of permits issued for hunting.
As a result, Eng. Zdravko Bakalov – Director of the South-Central District Police, ordered an inspection in the area, verification of the issued hunting permits, as well as review of the recordings from the cameras located near the places where the bears were found. According to him, at the moment no circumstances have been established from which to draw a conclusion about poaching.
In order to completely solve the problem, including due to the frequent damage and a meeting of bears with people, a working meeting will be held on Monday between the directors of RIEW, SCDP and RDG. Solutions for enhanced control over poaching, measures for the protection of the protected species, as well as the optimization of joint work in the event of bear damage to agricultural property will be identified.
