INFOCAMPO
The drought and high temperature deteriorated the state of the summer crops in almost the entire agricultural region, so the last rains registered in the central area were highly anticipated. They will generate a good recovery, mitigating the loss of performance.
Since November of last year, the drought, low levels of water tables and high temperatures with averages above 32ºC, have been hitting almost the entire central agricultural region, deteriorating the state of summer crops, so that the expected rains registered in the Monday, January 11, brought great relief.
At a productive level, natural grasslands, green fields, pastures and especially crops such as soybeans and corn, had been experiencing marked water stress, in environments with temperatures that reached over 37ºC.
Only the south of Córdoba had adequate reserves, after the 30 millimeters registered during the first days of January.
But finally, the expected and delayed rainfall arrived in the rest of the central agricultural area, which although they had been appearing sporadically, they did so largely with low millimeters, even well below forecasts.
Between 20 and 70 millimeters to regain performance
Basically on Monday, January 11, the central agricultural region received rainfall of varied intensity, although in the vast majority of the areas with very good millimeters compared to the previous ones, since a survey carried out by El ABC Rural indicates that they were registered between 20 and 70 millimeters.
In addition, in general, the rains were prolonged with low intensity, making their drainage very slow and calm, and that the infiltration in the soil is optimal, allowing the accumulation of good humidity in a discharged profile and with great absorption capacity.
Specialists indicate that this great water absorption of the crops, together with the impact of fertilization and a good temperature, will generate a good recovery, mitigating the impact of the loss of crop yield, both at the grain and forage level.
Most of the corn is in the early stages of grain filling, a lower percentage in flowering and the rest in panicle.
Meanwhile, soybeans were limited in their yield, many without closing the gap and with losses of plants, especially those of second sowing. The first ones are between the end of the vegetative stage and the beginning of flowering.
