Mexican authorities rescued more than 100 migrants crammed into the back of a truck, among whom were 39 people of Cuban origin.
According to a statement from the National Migration Institute (INM), the incident occurred on April 3 in the state of Tabasco, where 145 people of at least eight different nationalities were discovered in the back of the cargo vehicle while it was He was traveling through the town of Malpasito, in the municipality of Huimanguillo.
INM agents intercepted the vehicle and discovered hundreds of foreigners on board, so they decided to carry out a humanitarian rescue because they were in overcrowded conditions that put their lives at risk.
Among the 145 migrants, 20 minors were found, who were traveling accompanied, and 125 adults (38 women and 87 men), according to the local press. In addition to the 39 Cuban citizens, authorities also found 50 people from Ecuador, 17 from China, 16 from Bangladesh, nine from Nepal, eight from Honduras, five from India and one person from Guatemala.
The minors were taken to the Administrative Office for the Channeling of Accompanied, Unaccompanied and Separated Girls, Boys and Adolescents, of the INM, and will be cared for by the System for the Comprehensive Development of the Family (DIF) of the city of Villahermosa, capital of the Mexican state.
Now, Mexican authorities will determine if the migrants will be able to remain in the territory or will be deported to their countries of origin.
