The decision of Juan Soto and his new team in the Major Leagues seems to be a matter of days after information related to the player indicated that it will not be long before the Dominican announces what currency he will use to continue his sports career.
Information from the experienced MLB.com journalist, Jon Heyman, assured that once the meetings that Soto had with various teams, including the New York Yankees, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers or Toronto Blue Jays, were completed, he and his agent Scott Boras can make a decision about his future.
In fact Heyman compared the situation of the second in the voting for the Most Valuable Player of the American League with that of Shohei Ohtaniwho took several weeks to decide which team he was going to sign with after his departure from the Los Angeles Angels.
“Soto will sign sooner than Ohtani did last year. It won’t be this week, because you have to make your decision well. and he is still waiting for formal offers from the teams he has met with, while he will also meet with others these days,” he explained in conversation with MLB Network.
However, he considers that an upcoming date would be before or after the MLB winter meeting, scheduled on the calendar for next November 9.
In addition, he confirmed that the amount is not yet specified, but that without a doubt it will agree for a figure between $600 and $700 million dollars.
“It may be sooner or later (the signing from free agency), but I think it will be quite soon, either for $600 or $700 million dollars,” he added.
The expectation for Soto in free agency has generated thousands of impressions from fans in 2024, who talk about what would be the right destination for the powerful left-handed hitter.
The interested teams have had to deal with the constant increase in the amount for which they execute the transaction. Initially there was talk of $500 million dollars for Juan Soto, but due to the 2024 campaign, where he finished with 41 home runs and 109 RBIs, that changed.
Now there is talk that the offer would start at $660 million dollars, although others do not rule out that it exceeds the contract – deferred – that Ohtani agreed to with the Dodgers.
