They report 40 deaths from covid-19, a new record of deaths and 1,427 new infections

Dallas County Health and Human Services reported Monday 40 deaths from covid-19 in what represents a new record number of deaths.

The ages of those who have perished due to the pandemic range from 30 to more than 90 years.

Meanwhile, Monday’s report details that there are 1,427 new coronavirus infections, bringing the pandemic to 229,090 cases and 2,231 deaths since March 2020.

The provisional average for every seven days has decreased to 1,543, which represents a contagion rate of 58.5 per 100,000 inhabitants. The positivity rate remains high, at 25.7%.

“This is our highest number of reported deaths for a single day,” County Judge Clay Jenkins said through the report.

“Deaths will remain high for at least the next two weeks due to the high number of cases and community contagion during the month of December and January,” added the official.

Judge Jenkins insisted that the community must continue to make good decisions, as these have achieved an improvement in the state of the pandemic in the county.

“We are seeing improvements in some numbers,” Jenkins said. “Our hospitalizations (in intensive care) are in 914 for (Monday) and fell below 1,000 for the first time on Friday after several weeks, “he added, who also highlighted the decline in the number of daily infections.

Meanwhile, Tarrant County announced 1,887 new infections. There, the hospital occupancy rate remains high with 87% of beds occupied and 94% of beds in intensive care units occupied.
