They remember Lennon in New York

John Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, took advantage of the 40th anniversary of the legendary musician’s murder yesterday to call for greater gun control, amid emotional tributes to the artist in New York.

By mid-morning on Tuesday, a shrine with flowers, photos and a small tree was already perching on the Imagine mosaic located in the memorial to the artist in the gigantic Central Park of New York.

Ono took advantage of the date to ask for a conscience call and demand changes in the legislation on weapons.

Ono, who witnessed the murder of her husband from a very short distance, uploaded an image of Lennon’s shattered and bloody glasses on her Twitter account, with the following caption: “More than one million 436 thousand people have died from firearms in the United States since John Lennon was shot to death on December 8, 1980 ”.

In her tweet about her husband’s death, Ono included various tags, such as #guncontrol (gun control) and #end gun violence (end gun violence).

Not only the widow expressed her regret, but also her sons Julian and Sean.

After 40 years, Sean, Julian and I still miss him. Imagine all the people living life in peace, ”Ono added, citing the 1971 song he co-wrote with Lennon that became the best-selling single of the solo career. exBeatle.

Julian, Lennon’s eldest son, 57, paid tribute to his father by uploading a photo on Twitter with the message “As Time Goes By …” (“As Time Goes By …”, song from the film White House).

For his part, Sean, 45, posted a cute family photo.

Paul McCartney tweeted: “A sad day, but remembering my friend John with the great joy he brought to the world.”

Ringo Starr, the other survivor of The Beatles, said: “I ask all the music radio stations in the world to play Strawberry Fields Forever. Peace and love”.

Lennon was shot point-blank by Mark David Chapman, who has asked to be released from prison on several occasions.
