They release nearly 900 thousand BGN for excavations – 2024-04-13 10:30:21

Additional funds in the amount of BGN 856,890 are provided to the Ministry of Culture to finance activities on archaeological research and excavations of sites of national importance, the ministry’s press center announced. Part of the money is for conservation and restoration work.

The provision of additional funding coincides with the active season for the work of archaeologists in Summer – 2010.

Among the sites included in the list for financing are the monastery “Holy Virgin Pantanasa” in Melnik, the National Historical-Archaeological Reserve “Pliska”, the National Historical-Archaeological Reserve “Veliki Preslav”, “Trapezitsa” in Veliko Tarnovo, the Thracian sanctuaries “Belintash” and “Kozi Gramadi”, the proto-Bulgarian “Necropolis” near the village of Topola, Dobrichko, the “Rodostica” fortress near Ivaylovgrad, the islands of “St. Kirik” and “St. Ivan” near Sozopol, where relics of John the Baptist were found. The list also includes the princely monastery “St. Prince Boris” in the area of ​​Karach teke, Varna region, the prehistoric necropolis “Dabene”, the prehistoric salt pans in Provadia.

Archaeological research is carried out by specialists from the National Archaeological Institute with a museum at the BAS, the National History Museum, the Regional History Museum – Burgas, the Regional History Museum – Varna, the Regional History Museum – Dobrich and others.
