They recreated microgravity on Earth thanks to a powerful magnetic chamber

The breakthrough in this matter is to be ensured by scientists from National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, associated with the University of Florida. They announced the construction of the world’s first magnetic chamber of this type, in which it will be possible not only simulate microgravity, but also to carry out extremely important research at a fraction of the cost of today’s traditional research.

Although there are such magnetic chambers in the world, now, along with development of fusion rectors and creating powerful magnets for them, we can take this technology to a whole new level, previously unavailable to anyone in the world. The chamber under construction in the US will offer the possibility of placing and simulating microgravity conditions in it from 1,000 to 20,000 times larger objects.

The device has been equipped with Maxwell coil and high temperature superconducting materials. The coil itself is used to create a high-intensity magnetic field, while superconducting materials allow a significant reduction in energy requirements. The chamber is kind of magnetic levitation simulation. Its most important feature is that it can be used almost continuously.

While engineers report that the magnetic chamber will still be too small for humans, their purpose is not really to designate it for us. It is about experiments related to medicine, the latest technology or food. There are also projects related to the construction of objects on the Moon and Mars. Shipment costs for experiments on board International Space Station it’s hundreds or even millions of dollars.

Scientists explain that it is often not profitable to do them at all, but it is thanks to them more effective specifics for the most dangerous diseases can be developedwhether to prepare food for the survival of colonizers on alien worlds. In the future, such chambers will expand, so it will be possible to test larger and larger objects in them.
