Halyna Hutchins Lawyersthe director of photography shot dead in an accident at the hands of Alec Baldwin during the filming of Rust, they presented a video that recreates that fatal moment. They did it by presenting the complaint for “reckless homicide” against the actor and the production of the movie.
“Murder of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust“, is the name of the 3D recreation of the moment in which Baldwin shoots Hutchins with a gun that he believed was a blank, at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, near Santa Fe, New Mexico. The incident occurred on October 21, 2021 and cost Hutchins, 42, his life.. Director Joel Souza was injured.
The 3D video allows to see a man, who would be David Halls, the film’s assistant director, at the moment he hands Baldwin the gun. The actor, in turn, puts it in his holster and sits inside the set, arranged like the inside of a chapel.
Then, four members of the team are seen with masks on their faces, around a camera in front of the star of the film. The actor proceeds to unholster the weapon and points it towards the technicians. He pulls the trigger and Hutchins and Souza are injured. She starts moving backwards after impact. Later, you can see the technicians with Hutchinsas they help her lie down in the aisle between the pews of the makeshift church.

Hutchin’s family alleges that there was reckless behavior by the actor and the production, and that cost cutting led to death of the Ukrainian-born cinematographer.
“There are many guilty people, but Mr. Baldwin was the person holding the gun who, had it not been for him firing it, she would not have died. Clearly, he bears a significant part of the responsibility, but there are other”, said the attorney for the Hutchins family, Brian Panish.at a press conference.
The investigation has focused on Hannah Reed Gutiérrez, the person in charge of weapons of the filming. She was the one who loaded the Colt. 45 wielded by Baldwin with projectiles that she assumed were blanks. Reed Gutierrez gave Halls the gun. This, when giving it to the actor, said that it was a “cold gun”the term to define a weapon with blank ammunition.
Panish argued that up to fifteen protocols necessary to maintain security on set were breached. For example, there was no professional gunsmith monitoring the use of the gun at the time Halls brought it to the actor.
“If they had been followed, this would never have happened”assured the lawyer, who stressed that Baldwin is the one who has “the greatest responsibility” for holding the weapon, and that “there are many guilty parties” involved.
For their part, Baldwin’s lawyers and the producers of Rust listed in the lawsuit, believe that Baldwin, Hutchins “and the rest of the team relied on the statement of the two professionals responsible for checking the weapon that it was a ‘cold gun'”.
In turn, they stated that the protocol “it has worked on thousands of movies with millions of shots, as there has never been an incident before on a set where a bullet hit someone.” And they pointed out that “Any claim that Alec was reckless is completely false”.
