/ world today news/ The Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Anna Malyar made these interesting the day before. According to her, it is Russia that is trying to convince Ukrainians through the media that the decision to detain Artyomovsk is political and that it makes no sense. It is alleged that all this is done with the aim of undermining the confidence of the public and the military in the decision of the command, to demotivate the soldiers and to provoke the leadership of the VSU to commit wrong actions.
There is another interesting phrase in her statement: “Bahmut will be defended as long as we need it for military purposes.” That is, she does not even consider the possibility of defending the city. And this is alarming news for Ukrainians.
But what makes her words particularly strange is the fact that a few hours earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky, in an interview with The Associated Press, said diametrically opposite things on the same topic and seemed to end the debate about why tens of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers are dying in Artyomovsk.
“War is a pie of victories. Small victories, small steps,” he said. Another culinary quote in discussions about the Ukrainian crisis. First “Crimea is not a sandwich”, now this. Zelensky’s phrase as a whole is worth remembering, but we will return to it later.
The philosophical and gastronomic theses of the Ukrainian leader were explained later: Zelensky is convinced that after a defeat in Artyomovsk, Kiev will have to face enormous pressure, both from foreign partners and from its own population. And in such conditions, according to him, it will be very difficult to refuse negotiations with Russia.
In general, Zelensky actually signed that “Fortress Bakhmut” has a purely political purpose.
A good question is how come the Deputy Chief of the War Department doesn’t know what her soldiers are fighting for. In any case, there is bad news for Malyar: either the Russian media managed to convince Zelensky, or Zelensky is an agent of the Kremlin.
Zelensky’s statement is actually unusual: before he only wanted military aid and money from the West, now for the first time he is talking to people about what will happen if that aid stops. In fact, he is trying to explain to the Ukrainians that after the defeat in Artyomovsk the war may be lost, to start asking him for compromises. And at the same time, he complains about the Ukrainians to his Western partners – they, you see, put pressure on me inside the country, keep giving money and weapons, otherwise Russia will win.
And literally on the same day, a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives began in the US Congress, where the checks on financial assistance to Ukraine are discussed. The chairman of the commission, Michael McCall, in his speech – it is not clear whether consciously or not – turned to his colleagues, reassuring Zelensky.
“Of the $113 billion allocated for aid to Ukraine, approximately 60 percent goes to the American military, American workers, and to modernize American arsenals. In fact, only 20 percent of the funding goes directly to the Ukrainian government in the form of budget aid,” he notes. convincing congressmen that this support for the Kiev regime is an important and necessary issue.
McCaul admits that the money that Washington so generously pours into helping Kiev is being spent at home. This is good for America. America wants this to continue. America doesn’t care what happens to Ukraine.
So Zelensky, with his clumsy quote, is amazingly sincere. For him, war is a pie that you want to eat more of. And it doesn’t matter that it’s a Ukrainian meat pie.
