The proposal was unanimously accepted by the deputies

The MPs unanimously supported the BSP’s proposal that the minimum wage in 2023 be BGN 850. It was accepted at first reading and needs to go through another vote in parliament to become a fact.

“I ask you to support a minimum wage of BGN 850 for 2023. I appeal to Bulgarian businesses and employers who are against it. We helped you to survive the crisis and now we help you to work,” said the chairman of the BSP Kornelia Ninova.

“We have finally come to the important issues for Bulgarian society. Right now it is important to raise the minimum wage, because due to inflation many people are close to poverty,” said ‘Continuing the Change’ co-chair Kiril Petkov .

“We have to keep in mind whether the increase with such a large step will not also lead to an increase in the shadow economy. Many people will start working on a 4-hour work contract,” says Denitsa Sacheva from GERB.
