This is the moment when the first person in the state is vaccinated … and in the country
“I feel hopeful today …. I feel hopeful, that the cure is coming and the end of a very painful moment in our history,” said the recipient of the vaccine.
It is about the nurse Sandra Lindsay, who received the first dose of the vaccine against the coronavirus.
The nurse works in intensive care with patients suffering from the coronavirus, which places her in the group of health workers most at risk.
Sandra volunteered to receive the immunization.
“The vaccine is safe …. the vaccine is safe. We are in a pandemic and we need you to do your part to end it, “added the nurse.
This Monday the state received the first shipment of vaccines. The long-awaited 170,000 doses that could mark the beginning of the end of the pandemic.
The immunizations were shipped from one of Pfizer’s Michigan manufacturing centers in refrigerated trucks to the 150 centers that will distribute them across the country.
Northwell Health Hospital is one of these so the health workers at the center were eagerly waiting to put it on.
“The vaccine is very important especially because I have a family. I feel satisfied because I can protect myself and protect my family at the same time, ”said another worker.
And while medical experts say the vaccine is effective and safe, some workers are still unwilling to get vaccinated.
“The vaccine would be one like feeling more confident, true, a protection but at the same time we do not have enough evidence of which are the side effects that is most important,” said Ana, another employee.
Ana, who works in the administrative part at the same Northwell Health hospital, says that even with the risks of getting infected, both she and some of her colleagues hesitate to get the vaccine.
“With whom I work we are all in the same. We are with many doubts, they do not give us much information, more than everything about the studies and the side effects, which is what we fear most ”, added Ana.
This is the first shipment of the vaccines. The second dose is expected to arrive in 21 days.
And in less than a week the state will receive another shipment of 346,000 vaccines, this time from the Moderna company.
The second person to be vaccinated was doctor Yves Duroseau from the same hospital.
