In honor of the 80th anniversary of the birth of the legendary Bulgarian actor Stefan Danailov, which is celebrated on December 9, Georgi Toshev has collected most of his memories in a book called “The Game of Life”.
“Memories are something individual – I clearly understood this while helping Stefan Danailov write his autobiography “The novel of my life” (“Knigomania”, 2019). What he told about childhood and love, about euphoria of success and sadness of lost friendships, the pain of betrayals and the gratitude of meetings, is very different from what others tell about him – and now that he is gone,” Toshev told the “Telegraph “.
Emotions
The publication will be released on December 6 and is part of the next series of events entitled “Stefan Danailov at 80: years of love”. The preparation of the book is with the assistance of the Bulgarian National Film Archive and the State Agency “Archives”. Toshev adds: “Everyone is free to share memories, even if it will hurt someone. It has been several years since Lambo’s death. I should be able to talk about him without emotion, but sometimes I can’t. A person was created to excite, so he said to me. It turned out he was right.”
A challenge
Shortly before the Master, as his students called him, died, he bequeathed his archive to Georgi Toshev, which makes this book even more special. “Shortly before leaving, he bequeathed me his archive. What is it like to have proof of another’s life? A burden? A responsibility? A debt? Life is like a game. Every age is a challenge. The success of youth is the privilege of the elect, old age is loneliness for all. Stefan Danailov knew how to give meaning to others. He often said that life is like a card game: even if you have no trumps, the important thing is to interpret yours correctly . This book is far from a standard biography. It does not chronologically follow the facts of the life of an amazing actor and a person I had the good fortune to know. Listening to the recordings of our conversations, I found three words that Lambo often repeated – love , life, game, ”the author is emphatic.
