The Food Safety Unit of the Health Authority initiated sanitary investigations against two Chinese importers located in San Carlos, during an inspection in which the sale of food not labeled in Spanish was detected.
Gonzalo Toledo, Seremi (s) of Health, pointed out that it was also verified that the products did not contain the specifications of nutritional labeling and “High In” stamps, as established by current regulations, Law 20,606. In parallel, both commercial premises did not have the respective health resolution that authorizes the sale of food.
Specifically, in the Sociedad Comercializadora establishment and restaurant Yuang Limitada (located at Calle Independencia 838), the sale of food labeled in Chinese was prohibited, being retained until the anomalies detected are corrected. “A summary proceeding was initiated for violation of Supreme Decree 977/96 Food Regulations of the Ministry of Health (Minsal). It is important that consumers, when purchasing imported food, verify if the information contained in the packaging is in Spanish, otherwise, they will not know exactly the components and characteristics of the product,” explained Toledo, adding that the inspections to this types of premises are extended to all the communes of the Ñuble Region.
Due to similar non-compliance, an indictment was initiated against the Chinese Mall “Wang Ding”, (Serrano 553), establishing the same requirements to comply with current health regulations.
The inspection of premises in the capital of Punilla included verification of compliance with Supreme Decree 114/05, regarding information displayed on toys, by the Environmental Management Unit of the Seremi de Salud, National Consumer Service (Sernac) and the Superintendency of Electricity and Fuels (SEC).
