Of the batch of 60,000 Abdala vaccines against Covid-19, only about 6 percent have been applied, so massive vaccination days are being prepared to apply the second reinforcements to people between 18 and 59 years of age.
This was announced by the Secretary of Health, José Antonio Martínez García, who, when questioned by Diario ContraRéplica Puebla, pointed out that said batch of biologicals expires next August.
“All biologicals have an expiration date, these come until August, if I remember badly, what we are seeing is that in the next few days we will start the vaccination of second reinforcements for 18 years to 59 years 11 months, most likely with the biological Abdala”, express.
Therefore, he indicated that the Federation authorized him to start in the entity the application of second reinforcements for people from 18 years to 59 years with the Cuban biological in the next few days.
He announced that they already have a draft to start the inoculation of said age group, which establishes that on February 15 and 16 the second reinforcements will be given to inhabitants of 35 municipalities of the Sierra Norte and the Mixteca such as Ahucatlán, Aquixtla, Chignahuapan , Cuautempan, Ixtacamaxtitlán, Tenango de Rodriguez, Zacatlán, Acatlán, Piaxtla, San Pablo Anicano, Toltepec, Tulcingo del Valle, among others.
Martínez García emphasized that they are still waiting for written authorization, but said that vaccine boosters strengthen the immune system, which increases the ability to generate antibodies and therefore lessens the effects of the disease.
He attributed Abdala’s low acceptance to the fact that the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have not yet endorsed it, like the Sputnik formula. , but maintained that it is safe and is 95 percent effective.
He also commented that the arrival of more doses of Abdala is expected, since in Puebla there are between 700,000 and 800,000 people from 18 to 59 years of age who could receive a second reinforcement.
By the way, he called on parents to take their children from 5 to 11 years of age to be vaccinated, as he commented that there are already few doses of Pfizer that the Secretariat has available – around 7,000 – and he does not know when the Federation will send more.
