The State Coordination of Civil Protection (CEPC) issued an alert to the population due to the low temperatures that, starting tonight and throughout Thursday, will generate the formation of the Third Winter Storm of the season in a large part of the state territory.
According to the forecast of the National Meteorological Service, the phenomenon will be caused by a polar trough and the strong entry of moisture generated by the jet stream, in interaction with the new cold front 23 and its polar air mass.
These conditions will generate an increase in the probability of rain, as well as a marked drop in temperature and strong winds with gusts of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour (km/h), particularly in the municipalities of Balleza, and Guadalupe y Calvo.
Winds with gusts of over 45 km/h and between 25 and 40 km/h in the other regions are expected in the rest of the municipalities of the mountain region (high areas).
In addition, chances of rain are expected in Juárez, Ojinaga, Coyame, Guadalupe, Práxedis G. Guerrero, Ahumada, Ascensión, Buenaventura, Ignacio Zaragoza, Gómez Farías, Galeana, Guadalupe y Calvo, Casas Grandes, Nuevo Casas Grandes, Janos, Madera, Temosachi and Moris.
For this Thursday the maximum and minimum temperatures in degrees centigrade (ºC) for Nuevo Casas Grandes will be 9°C/4°C, Madera 10°C/-1°C and Bocoyna 10°C/0°C.
In the capital of Chihuahua, 10°C/6°C are expected, Delicias 11°C/6°C, Camargo 13°/7°C, Parral 20°C/10°C, while in Ciudad Juárez it will be 13°C/ 3°C and in Ojinaga 10°C/3°C.
During the first hours of the day there is a possibility of snow in Guadalupe, Práxedis G. Guerrero, Ahumada, Juárez and in some areas of Ascensión, and in the afternoon for the surroundings of the Sierra del Nido (near the Cumbres de Majalca National Park), as well as in Santa Isabel and Cuauhtémoc.
For Friday the temperature in Nuevo Casas Grandes will be 14°C/2°C, Madera 9°C/-2°C, Bocoyna 9°C/-3°C, Chihuahua 13°C/3°C, Delicias 14 °C/3°C, Camargo 14°C/4°C, Parral 13°C/1°C, Juárez 12°C/4°C and Ojinaga with 12°C/1°C.
The CEPC highlighted that the thermal sensation in some regions of Chihuahua will be from -5°C to -8°C for the western zone; -3°C to 0°C in the eastern zone; from 0°C to 4°C in the center-south zone and from 1°C to 4°C in the north zone.
Given the expected conditions, the CEPC recommends that citizens drink plenty of fluids, avoid sudden changes in temperature, and if necessary go outside, wear thick and appropriate clothing, in addition to consuming fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins A and C.
In case of rain, drive at a moderate speed and with the lights on, and postpone trips in case the authorities report frozen road sections.
The unit called on the population to remain vigilant of the notices it issues. In the event of any emergency situation, give immediate notice to the 9-1-1 system to receive timely attention.
