The victims of the extremist attack on a bike path that occurred more than five years ago in New York, including five from Rosario, were honored by relatives, survivors and consular officials with a floral offering at the place where the event took place, reported today the Chancellery.
The participants in the tribute, accompanied by the Argentine consul in New York, Santiago Villalba, made a tour of the bike lane sector until they reached the place where the group of Rosario’s friends who were celebrating more than 30 years of friendship were attacked.
There, you will find a plaque in honor of the Rosarians who died on October 31, 2017: Diego Enrique Angelini, Ariel Erlij, Hernan Ferruchi, Hernan Diego Mendoza and Alejandro Damian Pagnucco.
During the tour, tribute was also paid to the Belgian citizen and the two American citizens who died in the same attack.
After the placement of the wreath, the survivors and widows of the five Argentines who died went to the Consulate headquarters where there is a painting by the Rosario artist Ana Pérez Grassano, inaugurated for an exhibition that took place last November when they celebrated five years of the attack, with the aim of raising funds for relatives and victims.
Last Monday the trial began for the extremist attack perpetrated in a bike path in the Tribeca neighborhood, where eight people died (among them the five friends from Rosario) and eleven other people were injured, including the five Argentine survivors.
The only person accused of the attack is Sayfullo Saipov, an Uzbek national and a declared follower of the radical group Islamic State (ISIS).
For the start of the trial, almost 40 people traveled from Argentina, including survivors and family members, to witness and -some of them- testify in the process that will last several weeks, the Foreign Ministry added.
