Vaccines against COVID-19 are being applied in Arizona, although not with the frequency and quantity that the population requires, which is why it is important that people continue to take care of themselves and carry out tests to detect possible infections.
The Equality Health Foundation in partnership with Arizona State University (ASU) announce a collaborative effort with local entities interested in the communities of color and Hispanic, to increase access to COVID-19 testing.
Concerned about the outreach and education of competent medical care for vulnerable groups affected by the pandemic, these institutions understand that testing continues to be a tool to help control the spread of the disease, along with practices of physical distancing, cleaning surfaces, frequent hand washing and the use of face masks.
Until the COVID-19 vaccine is fully available to all, accessible testing among minority populations has been challenging, and now, there is a downward trend in participation since the vaccine’s rollout began and fatigue to protect themselves from the pandemic.
Therefore, people are encouraged to continue to practice preventive measures and get tested if they have been exposed to someone with the COVID-19 virus or are experiencing flu-like symptoms; such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, or loss of smell and / or taste.
Often times, the tests are also helpful in obtaining clearance to return to employment, return to school classrooms, or return to housing at college or before taking a trip.
For all these reasons, an upcoming testing event has been organized open to the general community, including children two years and older, accompanied by a tutor or their parents.
No identification or proof of insurance is required. The organizers are prepared to test more than a thousand people. Registration to take the test is now open online at https://www.equalityhealthfoundation.org/equality/ or by calling 1-888-410-2661.
