In another day of fighting against President Milei’s neoliberal adjustment, social organizations and picketers in Argentina are carrying out more than 500 roadblocks nationwide this Friday to demand food from the Government for soup kitchens.

According to local media, the mobilizations began at 9:30 a.m. local time in Buenos Aires (capital) and other cities. The epicenter of the protest is located in the Argentine capital, in the vicinity of the Ministry of Human Capital.

A significant deployment of National Gendarmerie troops is reported. The leader of the Partido Obrero (PO), Eduardo Belliboni, denounced that in front of Capital Humano the Police used batons and pepper spray against the protesters.

“We are not going to abandon the right to protest. We want the soup kitchens to open,” Belliboni made clear.

In addition to rejecting the neoliberal adjustment measures promoted by far-right president Javier Milei, those mobilized want to make visible the damage that budget cuts are doing to the care of 44,000 community kitchens, which provide food to millions of people in vulnerable situations.

Organizations linked to the Justicialista Party called for the cuts this Friday. Previously, through a statement, they reported that they do not receive a single kilo of food and that the Minister of Human Capital, Sandra Pettovello, evades dialogue with them.

The organizations stated that, by cutting funds to support the arrival of food, the Government eliminated the last containment barrier available to the most impoverished families, at a time when the country registers a poverty rate of almost 60 percent. an inflation of 20.6 percent in January and a year-on-year rate of 254.2 percent.

Among the organizations that convened are the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy (UTEP), Corriente Clasista y Combativa (CCC), the aforementioned Polo Obrero, the Free Organization of the South, the National Territorial Front (FeNat CTA-A) , the Coordinator for Social Change, the CTA-T Neighborhood Front and the Socialist Workers Movement (MST).
