They marched in Mar del Plata against the policies of the Argentine president –

Buenos Aires/Prensa Latina

Thousands of students, teachers, retirees and members of union and political organizations marched this Friday in Mar del Plata against the policies of President Javier Milei, who participated in an event in that Argentine city.

The president spoke at the 60th Colloquium of the Institute for Business Development of Argentina and insisted on his adjustment plan, the elimination of transfers to the provinces, the anti-protest protocol, cuts in public spending and other strongly questioned measures.

Despite a major police operation, the citizens rejected their visit to that territory in the province of Buenos Aires, placed crosses with messages against them and burned tires.

With the slogan “No shit with the public university,” protesters filled the avenues near the Sheraton hotel and spoke out against the head of state’s decision to veto a financing law for higher education centers.

In addition to students, teachers and non-teaching employees, members of the General Confederation of Workers and other labor unions participated in the demonstration.

In statements to the press, the academic secretary of the National University of Mar del Plata, Daniel Reynoso, stated that the protest demonstrated “the discontent and disagreement that exists within the sector with the policies implemented by the Executive Branch.”

In addition, he highlighted the support of other unions that see the damage caused to education, health and retirees.
