They march across the Brooklyn Bridge to demand an agenda

Little by little, hundreds of young people gathered in Foley Square in Manhattan to set up the banners, practice their slogans and talk about their same passion, which is to fight against climate change, the use of fossil fuels and to send a clear message to the authorities of the state, the nation and the world.

Barbara Gochis, young activist said:

“We are here to fight against the fossil fuelsso that the government and President Biden against our fight so that they end and so that the planet does not suffer anymore, that nature revives because nature is ending, ice, water, everything, then we will not be able to have no recourse.’

Thus, their future looks grey, say all these young people, who joined the march of the Fridays for Future movement… 15-year-old Luca Simián, a young activist from the Brooklyn Latin School, is already a leader among his peers.

“I think climate change is the biggest and most serious problem we have as a planet and as a species…

…We are going to show the world that this matters to us and that this is a problem that they have to face and that they have to solve.”

Among their demands is to ask New York state legislators to provide the necessary funds and pass the climate justice package of laws to eliminate carbon emissions and make this a healthy and equitable state.

In addition, they require the US government to vote yes, in the United Nations General Assembly, to legally establish the importance of the environmental crisis in relation to human rights.

And so united with one voice, hundreds of young people demand changes to have a better planet than the one they live on today.

“If we don’t do enough, in 10 years, we’re not going to have a future, we’re not going to have a habitable planet, that’s why.”

– How do you see yourself in the future?

“I want to work in politics, but more than anything I want to be alive…I want to be alive in 50 years.”

Emma Buretta adds:

“It is vital that young people get involved in protecting our future, because in the end we are the ones who will be alive when the devastating effects of climate change manifest themselves, if we do not act today,” says this other activist.

And yes, today they filled the streets of Lower Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge, carrying with them their slogans and hopes for a better future.
