After 31 years, Ohio (USA) law enforcement agencies were finally able to identify human remains that had been found near the road of a private farm in Pickaway County where they had been buried at a shallow depth.
According to a statement by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, the remains were found on November 1, 1991 are those of Robert A. Mullins, a young man who lived in Columbus, Ohio, and who disappeared between 1988 and 1989, at the age of 21. The case was solved thanks to aa dna test.
Initially, the authorities believed he was an indigenous indigenous person. However, further investigations took the few clues in another direction: it was determined that the remains had been buried for no more than three years and were thought to probably belong to a woman in her 25s.
After multiple and unsuccessful attempts to identify those remains, it was last November 1, precisely 31 years after the discoverythat the forensic genealogical research company “AdvanceDNA”, which had been investigating the case since January 2022, was finally able to establish Mullins’ identity.
“It’s been 31 Christmases this family was waiting for answers“said Yost referring to direct relatives. Despite the absence of immediate results and the case going cold, “Pickaway County law enforcement stood their ground and kept trying, until the evolution of DNA technology finally produced a identity,” he added.
Authorities also said Mullins’ case is being investigated as a homicide.
