Today we celebrate International Theater Day and say thank you to everyone who loves our Alytus theater: loudly or quietly, most importantly – sincerely. WE INVITE everyone who is interested in the world of theater to meet today at the Town Hall Square at 12:00 p.m. Let’s look at the life of the theater from a different angle – together with a short performance by the actors, the outdoor exhibition “Open Seams” (moments from rehearsals), author Valentinas Kryžiokas, will be opened, and in the evening “Teatrakmeniai” will traditionally be presented.
Why do you love the theater, we asked the townspeople:
Indrė Anankaitė, singer: “The theater is a big part of my life. It has endless emotion, wisdom, drama and climax! Great nostalgia when remembering the times when you had to act and sing in the Alytus theater. How many wonderful people I met here. How much kindness and professionalism I had to experience while creating together with them. I still respect and love them. And it will last forever! I congratulate everyone on Theater Day and wish you to love the theater with all your heart! As much theater as possible on stage – and as little as possible in life.”
Zita Stankevičienė, photographer: “I can’t imagine our city without a theater!” We would be like a house without windows! Gray and uninteresting. I love you all and admire the talented development team!”
Zita Reipienė, director of the nursery-kindergarten “Vyturėlis”: “I have loved the theater since I saw the first professional theater performance. It was “Kvadratas” by the legendary Eimuntas Nekrošias in the Vilnius Youth Theater. Probably in 1980. To this day, I feel and hear the feeling left by that performance – the difficulty of breathing. And the call emanating from the loudspeaker – breathe, breathe bolder, with a full chest… Perhaps the theater has remained an encouragement for me – breathe. Because you have that right. And… the opportunity to look at yourself from the outside. Completely confident in that look. From the creator’s point of view. I love and respect the creators of the Theater, I appreciate their work, I bow to their talents. Thank you.”
Vitana Bručienė, communication specialist: “I already want to go to the theater – I can compare this emerging feeling to the lack of sun in winter, to waiting for rain after a prolonged drought in summer. The theater is like a therapy for my feelings – in a performance, I can experience many different emotions in a few hours, see lives, even my own. I really like to leave the performance with the question WHY. Theater teaches tolerance, joy, anger, speech, love. Thank you, theater people, for creating, helping to understand life and what is most important in it.”
Klementina Gruzdienė, head of the Embassy of Change: “I love the theater not for something, but for the fact that it “goes” into a relationship with the audience, the city, does not give up, does not look for easy ways, and creates history. My grandfather, who just turned 80, organized an amateur theater – that was his slap in the face for “writing off”. Alytus Theater also creates with its work and dedication so that the city does not sleep, does not close its eyes, listens, loves, experiences. Thank you for your strength!”
Alma Overienė, speech therapist: „I love the Alytus Theater. Going to the theater is a celebration! The warm, cozy environment inside the theater (and the lobby always “welcomes” something surprising) is simply enchanting. It is a great place to get away from everyday worries, even in thought, at least temporarily, to “recharge” with good energy. Thank you”
Vida Mačernienė, employee of the city municipality: “I love the theater! He is like peeling an onion
it brings tears to my eyes and gives a taste of everyday life… I am happy and proud of the Alytus City Theater!”
Eglė Malinauskienė, singer, voice of radio station “FM99”: “For me, the theater is like a cradle of culture, where drama and comedy, music and literature, beauty and disgust, joy and sadness are cradled… Theater is not only a performance, but also everything before it: a barely perceptible trembling of the lips, a deep sigh, the aroma of make-up, water a sip before entering the stage, when the third bell rings and the audience calms down in anticipation… Welcome to the day of the theater, I wish that the light, nurturing rocking of the cradle turns into a dizzying swing of the swings, when it is a little scary to fall, but you want to swing higher and higher! And so every time!”
Vilma Kalendauskaitė, specialist: “The theater helps to get out of the everyday routine and overflows with emotions. In a good way, it bursts the bubble that surrounds us so that we can see the world more broadly. Theater is a carrier of change and life expands – the best thing in the world!”
Vida Grišmanauskienė, J. Kunčinas library director: “Theatre = a question and sometimes an answer. I like what remains in me after the performance and leaving the theater hall. Mise-en-scenes are still repeating in my head, a specially heard phrase sounds… Sometimes a dialogue with myself begins. And that dialogue does not last for a dozen minutes, but returns for at least a few more days, sometimes even for years. Theater is a powerful force, so with that POWER, dear theater people!”
Aldona Vilkelienė, professor, former director of the School of Music: Happy International Theater Day! As this holiday approaches, you think that the theater is important for an emotionally sensitive person, be it a spectator or an actor, both in terms of its aesthetic value and psychological meaning. Theater, like any other art, cannot be learned – it must be felt. It is a space of sensations, emotional colors, various characters, where you can spontaneously recreate real-life situations and discover contact with yourself, the balance between reality and fantasy. I love the theater because I feel the magical power of the stage, I see and hear the true cry of the soul. Often, only after the curtain comes down, you realize that you are enslaved by the extraordinary desire of the actors to be and enjoy together. They trust the viewer, reveal the most secret thoughts and feelings that are so similar and hidden in you, only hidden much deeper, and if you believe in the miracle of the moment, your thoughts will shine more often with a clear flash. Thank you, dear ones – and we, the audience, warmed by the lights of the stage, celebrate your professional holiday!”
Artūras Čiurlionis, director of “Vidzgiris” secondary school: “Sometimes in life you want to look at yourself from the side. The idea is to design in such a way that one can visualize oneself in one or another situation! However, it would remain visual if there were no theater! Here everything becomes reality, here you see yourself, because the actor expresses your thoughts, performs your movements, and music, objects and smells create reality! Here, sometimes you want to argue and shout that I wouldn’t act like that, I would do it differently… and this is true, even if for an hour or two! I love the theater for that… I also love the fact that, thanks to my friend Arūnas Narauskas and his theater “Runa”, I see how disabled children turn into something they really are, which we can’t see! And show us the depths of your soul!”
Daiva Baliukonytė, teacher: “At one time, the theater was a mouthful of freedom for me – we rushed to the performances of D. Tamulevičiūtė, E. Nekrošius, J. Vaitkaus to feel the hidden idea of freedom, the sound of free thought and speech. Later, for me, the theater was a sanctuary of deep thought, ambiguous texts, thinking. The years are unable to erase the thoughts of “Caligula”, “Hamlet”, “Sand Pianos”… Now, for me, the theater is a place of unexpected analogies, discoveries, a house of synthesis of arts. Every time I open the doors of the theater, I enter a world that sometimes fascinates, entices, bewitches, sometimes infuriates, sometimes makes me genuinely laugh, sometimes makes me so angry with primitiveness and pandering to the audience that I leave without understanding what I was doing here. But theater always makes you think, weigh, be surprised, feel its presence.”
Goda Prapuolenytė-Leonavičienė, journalist: “I love the theater because it creates miracles. This is the only place in the world where I can participate in a comic wedding together with the actors, participate in Pinčiuk’s shenanigans, cry and laugh together with hundreds of other people. The theater scrapes the scabs from the realities of life and patches them with patches of irony. The theater is both a place that brings everyone together, and a phenomenon that unites everyone, and a separate character, and a flag bearer of the city. Happy Theater Day to both the theater and the audience!”
Ksenia Romashenko, former artistic director of the Alytus Theater: “I love the theater, because it is in the theater that we can see ourselves and our world from the outside. We may not be the heroes of the play, but we certainly become participants. And this experience is priceless. I love the theater because it gives me the strength to survive the most difficult moments of my life. It fills me with faith that good always wins, no matter how difficult the road.”
Daina Jegelevičiūtė-Biekšienė, psychologist, writer: “When the soul dries up under the pressure of vanity, the heart silently seeks an oasis. And finds. Randa in the theater. Theater saturates the blood with reflections, from which precious gems are born. Then it becomes more joyful to live, it is easier to glide through everyday life.”
Aistė Kuniejiene, employee of the city municipality: “I love the theater, because it is an asset of our city’s cultural color, we may not even think about it, but not every city in Lithuania can enjoy it. Every time I go to watch the productions of the Alytus City Theater, I have no doubts that I will take away not only a moral and spiritual sense of enrichment, but also a creative and innovatively surprising spectacle. I am proud of the professionals who create it, who every time make each role and episode live with them, involve and allow us to get to know ourselves and the world around us better.”
