A patera has been located on the afternoon of this Sunday with some 38 sub-Saharan migrants inside it when it was a mile (about 1.8 kilometers) from Pasito Blanco, in the south of Gran Canaria.
It was the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (Cecoes) 112 Canarias, which warned that a boat had been spotted, so a Red Cross boat, the Salvamar Menkalinan and the Río Tajo de la Guardia patrol boat set sail for it. Civil.
For its part, a Red Cross jet ski remained with the irregular vessel until the arrival of maritime resources in the area.
Once they arrived, the 38 occupants of the boat – 36 men, a woman and a child – were rescued and transported on the Tajo River to the Port of Arinaga, while the Salvamar Menkalinan took over to tow the boat to the Arguineguín Pier.
Finally, at the foot of the port, the usual device awaited the arrival of boats made up of the Red Cross and the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), who took charge of the migrants.
Three boats during the weekend
With this patera, so far this weekend there have been three irregular vessels that have reached the Canary Islands, transporting a total of 150 people who traveled on board.
The first arrived at the Port of Arinaga Arinaga in the early hours from Friday to Saturday with about 55 migrants, while the second, with 57 people, was rescued on Saturday morning and transported to the same port area.
