“They know him as Chapito… the inheritance has marked us” – El Financiero

They know him by Chapito”: Iván Archivaldo Guzmán, one of the sons of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, appears in several regional Mexican music songs, as does his brother Ovidio ‘El Ratón’ Guzmán.

Iván Archivaldo Guzmán, ‘El Chapito’, is one of the four children that ‘El Chapo’ had with Alejandrina Salazar, he grew up in Guadalajara, in a safe environment that allowed him and his three brothers greater access to education compared to his fatheras well as to venture into the business field.

On April 22, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) offered $10 million (around 180 million Mexican pesos) for the capture of Iván Archivaldo Guzmán.

According to the US agency, the Mexican is accused of at least three federal crimes related to conspiracy and importation of illegal substances.

In 2005 he was arrested in Zapopan, Jalisco. for laundering money for the Sinaloa Cartel and was released three years later for lack of evidence. At the end of 2021, the government of The United States offered 5 million dollars for information related to ‘el Chapito’. His story has been interpreted in several songs.

Who sings Iván Archivaldo’s corrido?

‘Ivan El Chapito’

One of the most popular corridos that circulate about the son of ‘Chapo’ is the song ‘Iván El Chapito’, which comes from the album The Child of the Prickly Pear from the singer Roberto Tapiacame out in 2009 and also contains another song that refers to the ‘Chapo’ family.

“Chapito just like my dad and also in love, that’s how we Guzmán are, our inheritance has marked us,” is heard in part of the song. Likewise, the corrido makes a brief reference to the time he spent in prison after being arrested in Jalisco: “three years in prison”.

Roberto Tapia’s song also talks about Joaquín Guzmán’s escape from maximum security prison in El Altiplano.

“Let the Tucanes sing to me, the one about the ‘Chapo’ escape that I want to continue taking with my brother Alfredito”, can be heard in the single that refers to another of the sons of Guzmán Loera: Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar.

In 2015, another song of the same name was released from Maximum Grade Group which has a letter where the story of Iván Archivaldo is related. This single is part of the album Acme Brand: My name is Iván, I am the son of ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán Loera and so it will be”.

The corrido begins by pointing out the search for ‘El Chapito’ that national and international authorities have implemented:

And they come and go

And no, you may ask

Because if Ivan is somewhere

After they go, they can’t find it

Questions, Answers

They can’t find.”

‘Archivaldo’

In 2013 ‘Archivaldo’ was released, by singer Gerardo Ortíz, it is part of the album Archives of my Life. The only direct reference made to Iván is at the beginning of the corrido: “because he is the son of ‘Chapo’ and brings strength through the veins”.

‘The Pleasures of Archivaldo’

Ten years ago ‘Los Placeres de Archivaldo’ was launched from the band Enigma Norteño. The corrido has a music video that came out the same year as the song, it shows the group singing with different luxury cars in the background:

“I am the ‘Chapito’ I am Archivaldo, son of Guzmán Loera… I don’t mind walking here on fire if the government is looking for me, it’s their problem.”

Unlike the other singles, this song talks about some of the criminal’s luxuries: “Mercedes, Ferraris, sometimes I bring”.

Iván Archivaldo Guzmán is known for showing off his fortune on social networks. In previous years, Twitter accounts were found in which he displayed his cars.

Similarly, the Enigma Norteño corrido refers to the search for ‘Chapito’ with the following sentence: “If the government wants me, that’s their problem. I have adventures with guns.” The song ends with the following verse:

“And if it’s about activating

Alfredo is the first to jump

Blood of my Blood

Pure Guzmán Salazar”.
