Employees and employers in the transport sector do not expect an increase in the number of passengers, despite the lifting of restrictive measures against the spread of coronavirus. 10 percent of the transport companies have already stopped operating, the difficulties in the sector have not disappeared, according to the reports of the bus companies.
Even with higher transportation prices – both for city tickets and long-distance tickets, the industry does not expect significant revenue.
Despite the repealed Covid measures, people remain cautious and an increase in bus travel is not expected, said the Confederation of Bus Carriers.
At the moment, the prices for bus transportation have been updated in almost all municipalities in Bulgaria, and there are still places where they negotiate with the carriers, but by the end of this month the ticket price will be increased everywhere.
Magdalena Miltenova, President of the Confederation of Bus Carriers, also said:
“This thing, of course, does not solve the problem in any way – methane is 200% increased, so a 50% increase in the ticket does not solve the problem of lack of funds in the industry.”
The reason for the higher ticket prices is not only the high fuel prices, but also the lack of funding for intercity bus lines by the state and municipalities, as well as insufficient funding for urban and mountain bus lines, because the subsidies provided in the budget, are calculated on the basis of the previous year, when inflation was different from the current one, explained the Confederation of Bus Carriers.
Here is the opinion on the topic of Georgi Atanasov, manager of a large transport company:
“Of the reports we have, about 10% of colleagues have stopped working. All preferences are reserved for children, pupils and students, as well as for pensioners, the disabled. All eligible groups of passengers retain their discounts.”
