The Government of El Salvador is committed to the road safety of Salvadorans; For this reason, it has intensified its work during the holiday week, in which more than 4,500 sanctions have been imposed on the entire vehicle fleet, in a wide deployment of vehicle controls installed nationwide.
The Minister of Public Works, Romeo Rodríguez, together with the general director of Land Transportation, Ismael Flores, verified the installation of a vehicle control on the road that leads to the port of Acajutla, through the Nahulingo sector, where he reported on the measures carried out. during Holy Week.
“During this holiday period, more than 4,500 traffic fines have been issued to the entire vehicle fleet. 25% to freight transport, 44% to private vehicles, 11% to public transport (…) The first cause is traveling at a speed greater than the regulation and there have been 521 violations for this reason. Another infraction is driving without being authorized or not having it at the time, more than 234 drivers do not carry a fire extinguisher or other safety items,” Rodríguez explained.
In public transport, the causes of violations have been not carrying a spare tire, not having a visible fare, which has led to cases where a sanctioning process began for an increase in fare.
Regarding anti-doping controls, more than 4,000 breathalyzer tests have been carried out so far this holiday period; resulting in 99 people arrested for dangerous driving. “The idea is for drivers to go to their destinations safely,” the official added.
Given these results, the Government of El Salvador reiterates its commitment to the road safety of Salvadorans, which is why it will not stop to guarantee that national and foreign tourists enjoy their vacations safely and in peace on the streets and roads.
