Nobody is saved! The crime of identity theft has been increasing, especially in public figures, the most recent being: the one committed against the State Attorney General herself, Verónica Hernández Giádans and now the bishop of the Diocese of Córdoba.
Members of the Communications Commission of the Diocese of Córdoba, detected the apocryphal Facebook account that was opened by unknown persons, with the name of Monsignor: “Eduardo Cirilo Carmona Ortega”, as well as some of his photographs.
Once they confirmed that the “Spiritual Leader” page, with reference to “Córdoba Centro, México”, was not created by the Cordoba prelate, since he does not even use social networks, they began to circulate a screenshot of the “cover ” of the false profile of Carmona Ortega, with the captions: “Watch out! Fake page.
In the same way, they asked for the support of netizens and users of that social network to report the page in question and it be blocked, because there is fear that the person or persons responsible for impersonating the bishop may have inappropriate behavior. , using the name and image of monsignor.
In an interview at the end of the Sunday homily, Carmona Ortega confirmed the situation by responding: “Someone made that page, we are working on it. Unfortunately, it is difficult to remove a page that is not yours, but we are working on it. It’s wrong, impersonating identity, it’s a crime. I don’t use face, flat out. I have never used Facebook and I don’t think I will.”
Therefore, this week the members of the Diocese’s Media Commission will meet with the Bishop of Córdoba to determine the measures to be taken, as well as to issue an official alert statement to the parishioners and citizens in general.
“This situation is worrying because we do not know for what purposes it was created (the false profile) or under what interests. During the week there will be a meeting to determine the steps to follow and officially inform the general public so that they are alert,” they emphasized.
Last Friday, Roberto Antonio “N” was arrested by personnel from the Ministerial Investigations Prosecutor’s Office as allegedly responsible for the crime of identity theft against the State Attorney General, Verónica Hernández Giadans, who confirmed the facts.
“An arrest warrant was executed, he was posing as me, and I am the first to act and not allow this type of situation,” he told the press, while the judge imposed the precautionary measure of unofficial preventive detention for a year, within the criminal process 67/2023.
