Los Angeles, Dec 2 (EFE) .- Minnesota state health authorities have identified this Thursday a case of the omicron variant of the coronavirus, the second to be registered in the United States.
The case concerns a Minnesota resident who had traveled to New York City for the Anime NYC 2021 convention, which was attended by 53,000 people between November 19 and 21. This person developed “mild symptoms” of covid-19 on November 22.
Minnesota health authorities said in a statement that they are working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and New York City officials to investigate the contagion.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said in a statement that the state’s robust testing network and infrastructure has made it possible to quickly trace the virus that causes COVID-19 and better understand its spread.
The concern about this second case detected in the United States focuses on the fact that the person had not traveled outside the country.
The first case of the omicron variant in the United States was identified this Wednesday in California in an individual who returned to the country from South Africa on November 22.
That person tested positive for COVID-19 on Nov. 29, and California authorities said they are tracking everyone who had contact with the traveler.
President Joe Biden will announce this Thursday a strategy to deal with covid-19 during the winter months, with a resurgence looming after the discovery of the omicron variant.
