Likewise, Mercado stated that “the symptoms are very variable in this type of cancer, since the patient may be asymptomatic in the initial stages or present skin irritation, nipple retraction, tumor or palpable nodule in the breast or armpit.” At the same time, he commented that “we always recommend self-control because it is the reason why many people decide to make a consultation when they detect something that was not there.”

“Breast cancer cannot be avoided, but it can be prevented in the sense of diagnosing it early because it is the only way to save lives,” said the gynecologist and expanded: “It is essential that the patient do her check-ups and go to the gynecologist.” or mastologist at least once a year.” Then, he also explained that among the risk factors for this disease are “smoking, overweight, alcohol consumption, lack of physical activity and bad lifestyle habits, which are complications in this and other types of oncological diseases.”

Furthermore, the obstetrician stressed that “75% of cancers are sporadic, while only 5 or 10% have a hereditary component, which is why we recommend that an early consultation be carried out in cases of family history,” and completed: “The follow-up of a patient with an oncological diagnosis is lifelong, which is why we always recommend doing mammographic studies once a year after age 40.”

Finally, Pilar Mercado commented that “today breast cancer is very curable, which is why from our place we always highlight the importance of having checkups to detect the disease in time and thus advance with curative treatment.”
