They have expanded the national vaccination campaign for children

During a new meeting of the Federal Council of Health of the Argentine Republic (COFESA), which was virtually attended by the Minister of Health, Rosa Dávila, it was decided to extend the national vaccination campaign throughout the country until 11 December. Vaccinations are intended for boys and girls from 13 months to 4 years inclusive, additional doses of Triple Viral and IPV are applied. Furthermore, it has been established that the extra doses are a mandatory requirement for entry into schools 2023 at all levels.

In the virtual meeting, which was also attended by the ministerial coordinator Juan Talia, the head of the epidemiology program Rodrigo Verdugo and the head of the immunization service, María Esther Diángelo, they addressed various topics. But the main one was the assessment of immunization progress in children aged 13 months to 4 years. Therefore, taking into account the low adherence across the country, the health authorities have decided to continue vaccinating for a while longer to reach the goal of having at least 95% of the target population vaccinated.

According to the data presented at the meeting, as of Friday only 53.5% of children had been immunized throughout the country and 1,079,824 doses remain to be applied. The provinces were asked to “investigate the actions” and it was established that the extra doses are a mandatory requirement for 2023 school entry at all levels.

Situation

The reality of the country with measles is that despite having isolated cases, it continues to be a country free of this disease and the goal is to continue with this indicator. However, there is concern because more than 40,000 infections were detected on the continent between 2017 and 2019, 93% of them in Brazil. Furthermore, the decline in coverage against these diseases and the reopening of borders after the Covid-19 pandemic have alerted jurisdictions to the possible importation of the virus.

Faced with this scenario, the vaccination campaign against measles, rubella, mumps and poliomyelitis, highly contagious diseases that can leave after-effects, began on 1 October throughout the country. As mentioned, the recipients are children from 13 months to 4 years inclusive, regardless of whether these vaccines have already been applied or not. As long as the campaign continues, the doses will be available in all CAPs and hospitals and are applied without the need for a prescription. They are mandatory and free.

The campaign vaccines can be co-administered with the Covid-19 vaccine and any other in the national calendar.

Since the start of the vaccination on October 1, the San Marino Ministry of Health has deployed important logistics, with operations in the squares and even house-to-house. Thanks to extensive territorial work, there are places like Tilisarao that have achieved 100% of children vaccinated.
