They handed over power, Radev: Your mission is fulfilled – Bulgaria

“Your mission is accomplished today, but your experience and authority will be needed in the future.”

With these words, President Rumen Radev dissolved the caretaker cabinet, minutes after parliament elected the new government.

The head of state thanked the members of the two Yanev cabinets for the work done.

“In a moment you will hand over the ministries and agencies entrusted to you to your successors from the regular government. It was up to you to ensure the functioning of the state and the continuity of governance over the last 7 months. You had to work in extremely difficult conditions – without a working parliament, with an empty budget bequeathed to you by the previous regular cabinet. It is up to you to manage the health crisis, the global European energy crisis and their economic and social consequences, with strong resistance to the status quo and daily media pressure. I want to thank each of you for your good will, courage and diligence.

Your cabinet, Mr. Yanev, has shown that there can be a new type of government – transparent and responsible with caring for people. He showed that machine voting can be introduced and the purchased vote can be broken. This cabinet stopped racketeering business and increased tax collection. You have uncovered unprecedented budget abuses, including the draining of the Hemus motorway. After 13 years of carelessness, you updated pensions and supported the poor and vulnerable, managed to break the worst fourth wave of the pandemic and with your joint efforts did not allow the country to close, which would have severe economic and social consequences. You have provided conditions for everyone who wants to be vaccinated, unlike the previous government, which in a pandemic kept children locked up at home all year round, depriving them of a full education. You managed to return the children to school in a very short time and in a safe environment.

You have refined the Recovery and Sustainability Plan and made it a powerful platform for modernizing the country. You have overcome the energy crisis and provided significant financial support and compensation to all non-household consumers. You stopped the import and incineration of hazardous waste, you protected the Bulgarian nature, our centuries-old forests and beaches on the Black Sea coast. You have stopped the vicious practices in the State Fund “Agriculture” and activated long-delayed projects.

I would like to thank the government for its support in defending national interests in foreign policy. You have taken adequate measures against the migration crisis, including restoring the integrity of the border fence, which began to deteriorate with its opening.

Ladies and gentlemen, the unprincipled attacks you heard today on the parliamentary rostrum of the most corrupt and compromised regime in Bulgaria’s recent history are an excellent testament to your work. The best assessment of your actions is the approval of the people. Today, your mission is fulfilled, but the cause of Bulgaria is permanent and your competence, experience and authority will be needed in the future, “said Radev.

Radev: Success of the cabinet

Stefan Yanev thanked the head of state for the election of the caretaker cabinet.

“Thank you, Mr. President, for your trust. I also thank the ministers for accepting the challenge. The results are there. Of course, I would not allow myself to give an assessment, because my belief is that the assessment is given by Bulgarian citizens. I think that Bulgaria is different, a little better. Whether we continue in the same direction depends on the people behind us. I think that Bulgaria needs reforms. People expect reforms. Whether we will continue in the same direction depends on continuing the same pace of reforms. This is one of the reasons why I agreed to stay in the next regular office. Change is needed, “said Yanev, who holds the post of defense minister in the new government.

Kiril Petkov was elected Prime Minister

He then handed over power to Bulgaria’s new prime minister, Kiril Petkov.

“I am very glad that today we continue the change we started 7 months ago,” said Kiril Petkov. “We worked side by side with many of you. With many of you we had difficult tasks, with which we managed to make the first big steps in the approach of a new Bulgaria. Bulgaria in which there is transparency and zero tolerance for corruption. The change of the old model has begun. Colleagues, new ministers, I am first among equals. That’s where the promises were, now the action begins. Let’s get to work. “
