Police have seized 72 firearms from the home of French screen legend Alain Delon, who did not have a permit for any of them, prosecutors said Tuesday.
At his home in Duchy-Montcorbon, 135 km south of Paris, authorities also found a makeshift shooting range and more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition. Delon, 88, “does not have a permit allowing him to possess a firearm,” said local prosecutor Jean-Cedric Gau.
After suffering a stroke in 2019, the actor has been in dire health and has recently been at the center of an escalating family feud. The search was ordered after a court officer dispatched to his home spotted a weapon and informed the judge.
Alain Delon has rarely appeared on screen since the 1990s. His last major public appearance was to receive the honorary Palme d’Or award at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. In September 2021, he attended the funeral of his friend and colleague Jean-Paul Belmondo in Paris.
Last month, his youngest son filed a complaint in court against his sister, who he accuses of taking advantage of Delon’s weakness. The feud became public after his eldest son, Anthony Delon, told Paris Match magazine that his father was not well.
Concerns first arose about the actor last year when his three children filed a complaint against his former assistant Hiromi Rollin, accusing her of harassment and threatening behavior.
The French movie star’s financial fortune is believed to be in the millions. In June 2023, he auctioned around 80 works of art for more than €8 million.
