In Northern Italy, investigators found the mummified body of a 70-year-old woman in her apartment. She was last seen alive in September 2019.
Quite by chance, the police of Prestino, Northern Italy, came across the body of a lonely Marinella Beretta, who apparently died more than two years ago. According to the newspaper “Coriere della Serra”, the woman sold her house to a Swiss a few years ago, but retained the right to live for life.
The new owner rarely came, but became alarmed only when he was informed about fallen trees in the property along the strong winds of Lombardy in the previous days. He then signaled to the police, who eventually found the body.
According to the publication, the woman was last seen by neighbors in September 2019. Since then, neighbors have suggested that she moved on to the start of the coronavirus pandemic, which hit Northern Italy hard in early 2020. Obviously, the woman has no living relatives. Nothing indicates an unnatural death.
The discovery caused horror in Italy. Family Minister Elena Bonetti wrote on Facebook: “What happened in Como, the forgotten loneliness, hurts our conscience. We must, as a community that wants to remain united, remember their lives.”No one should be left alone.
The deceased is “the personification of loneliness,” says a comment on Corriere della Sera. “Many of us still have memories of chaotic, very branched families in rural Italy.”Today people are dying alone. “And we live alone, which is even worse”“
