Cryptocurrency mining requires efficient hardware that has high performance but also low power consumption so that electricity and hardware costs do not exceed revenues. But it is much easier when the electricity is stolen, as was the case with Ukrainian miners who were recently discovered in the city of Vinnytsia. The miners used the old hangar, connected to the electricity distribution network and at the same time installed fake electricity meters to avoid high electricity consumption.

And it must have been really huge, because in addition to 50 processors and more than 500 graphics cards, there were also 3,800 game consoles. Sony PlayStation 4. The miners apparently managed to run algorithms for cryptocurrency mining on these game consoles as well, and even though the ratio of power and consumption is not among the best, with “free” electricity, mining had to pay off in this way as well. Preliminary calculations show that they stole electricity for 5 to 7 million hryvnia (4 to 5.6 million CZK) every month. We do not yet know what the penalties are now for the theft of electricity.
