Vietnam has discovered a new variant of COVID-19, which is a combination of the Indian and British strains, the BBC reported.
“The characteristic of this strain is that it spreads rapidly through the air. The concentration of the virus in the fluid in the throat is increasing rapidly and is spreading very strongly in the environment, “said Vietnamese Health Minister Nguyen Tan Long. He did not specify the number of cases registered with this new option, but stressed that it is extremely dangerous. The genetic code of this variant would soon be made available to experts.
The Indian variant B.1.617.2 is more easily transmitted than others discovered so far. The British B.1.1.7 brought the heavy wave that swept the island during the winter, and subsequently the other European countries, including Bulgaria.
Viruses mutate all the time and most variants are irrelevant, but some can make the disease more contagious. Thousands of mutations have been detected since the identification of COVID-19 for the first time in January 2020.
Having successfully controlled the pandemic, Vietnam is now struggling with a rapid increase in cases. So far, it has reported 6,400 infected and 47 dead. More than half of the cases were registered in the last month.
