They found a 200-year-old note. An incredible message – 2024-09-22 14:29:16

Sensational find in France!

During the archaeological excavations of a Gallic village near the city of Dieppe in the north of the country, students came across a clay jug in which an incredible message was hidden. This is what BILD writes about, 7kefa.com reports.

Excavation leader Guillaume Blondel said that a small glass vessel was found inside the jug, inside which was sealed a note from an archaeologist who excavated the site 200 years ago. Blondel noted that the “time capsule” perfectly preserved his colleague’s message.

“PJ Feret, a native of Dieppe and a member of various scientific societies, excavated here in January 1825. He continued his research in this large area known as the Cité de Limes or Caesar’s Fortification,” said the note found.

Blondel told reporters that the archaeologist Ferre’s name was familiar to him. He added that archaeologists leave such notes extremely rarely, and this find is even more valuable.

“It was an absolutely magical moment. We knew there had been excavations here in the past, but finding such a 200-year-old message was a complete surprise,” he enthuses as he demonstrates the find.

Later, thanks to documents preserved in the city archives of Dieppe, it was possible to confirm that the first excavations were indeed carried out in the area at the end of the 19th century.

“Sometimes there are such time capsules left by carpenters when building houses. But in archeology this is very rare. “Most archaeologists prefer to think that no one is going to follow them because they’ve already done all the work,” Blondel said.

Excavations of the ancient Gallic settlement that was here at the beginning of our era have been resumed due to the fact that the rocks near Dieppe are collapsing and the area is gradually being submerged under water. However, at the surviving site, Blondell and his team were able to find several Gallic artifacts, including pottery that is about 2,000 years old.

We remind you that in the Slovak village of Štitnik, during the reconstruction of the roof of the church of St. Jude Tadeusz, a 188-year-old “time capsule” was discovered. Three documents were hidden in the chest.
