The community of the province of Guantánamo lived moments of anguish this Tuesday, March 26, after the unfortunate discovery of the body of a man who drowned on the Baracoa boardwalk.
The macabre moment was shared on social networks, and the images show dozens of passersby watching from a distance while a speed boat was in charge of recovering the body.
“The divers are already lying there. “They jumped in the search for rescue,” the person behind the camera can be heard saying.
After an unspecified time, the body of the drowned man, later identified as Ramón, was located near one of the shores. However, the sharp rocks nearby, as well as the strong waves experienced that day, made the rescue very complicated.
Despite this, one of the divers who jumped from the boat gradually approached the body, while another person carefully walked along the rocks and threw himself a few meters from the deceased.
“That’s dangerous, God grant that nothing happens to that boy,” the cameraman can be heard saying while the second diver moved along the rocks and was hit by strong waves.
After both people managed to get close enough to the body, they began to swim while towing the deceased towards the boat, all while dozens of people watched attentively what was happening.
Among the comments published on the video, some people lamented the death recorded on the shores of Guantánamo, also sharing some information about the man who lost his life at sea.
These users assured that the deceased was selling with a cot in front of the municipality’s special bakery. Some of the comments suggest that this would have been a suicide, however, we will have to wait for the authorities to rule on the matter to determine the cause of his death.
“This is a sad situation, I think it would have been an emotional imbalance. He was very sociable and helpful, humorous, well-known and loved, my respects and condolences to the family” and “My cousin, we talk so much, but I never thought it would come to this, you leave us a tremendous void,” were some of these comments.
