Very unusual cases of heart problems in vaccinated teens and young adults against covid-19 were reported this week by the United States health authorities, without a link having been established for the moment with the inoculation process that faces the coronavirus pandemic.
The reports record cases of myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle, which occurred in people who received a messenger RNA vaccine such as those developed by Pfizer and BioNTech, as well as Moderna, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. United States Diseases (CDC).
The most cases “appear to be benign”, explained and assured the CDC, who reported that the situation is being monitored.
As revealed by experts, “relatively few” cases have been reported, without specifying the names or exact ages of the people affected.
The episodes occurred mainly in “adolescents and young adults”, within four days of the injection.
These myocarditis, which occurred more often “after the second dose”have affected men more than women.
The number of myocarditis reported does not currently exceed the normal rate of this condition in people of this age group, according to health authorities.
At the end of April, five cases of myocarditis were detected in France in people who had received the covid-19 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech, but a link with the injections has not been shown.
In the United States, the authorization of use of the vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech was extended to adolescents between 12 and 15 years old on May 10.
