(CNN Spanish) – The body of environmental activist Homero Gómez González was found on Wednesday in the municipality of Ocampo, in Michoacán, the Attorney General’s Office said.
The authorities were looking for Gomez, who had disappeared on January 13. Already the State Human Rights Commission
de Michoacán had asked in a statement to consider the work of the environmentalist as one of the possible reasons for his disappearance.
Gomez, 50, was known for being the “defender of the monarch butterfly,” a title he earned for his fight in
favor of several natural areas of Michoacán that each boreal winter become the habitat of this colorful species of insect.
