The Collier County, Florida sheriff has called for a “thorough investigation” to catch those responsible for the massacre of a horse occurred in the early hours of Friday in that area, according to his office. The note from the police department defines what happened as “a horrible crime.”

The sheriff’s agents believe that the perpetrators of the slaughter took the horse’s life to use its meat, they explained. As the local station WKMG-TV remembersSimilar cases occurred between November and December 2019 in areas further north in the same state.

An emergency call alerted the horse’s death on the morning of last Friday. The sheriff’s agents went to the place where they met the shattered remains of the animal, an empty grass located next to the property of its owners, according to WBHH, local affiliate of NBC.

Officers believe that someone entered the place where the horse was during the early morning, took him to that nearby pasture and killed him.

Kevin Rambosk, Collier County Sheriff, requested that this death be investigated “with the technologies and resources” his office owns.

The owners of the horse, whose name was Whib, told WBBH that they are offering a $ 12,600 reward for anyone with information that can help catch who killed the horse.

“It’s part of our family, it’s my partner,” said Jamie Doria, one of the owners. “It’s not just a horse, it’s not just an animal,” he added.

The sheriff’s office said he is collaborating with the Florida Rural Crime Intelligence Unit and local police departments to also investigate other similar horse deaths.

Rambosk also allocated more patrols in the areas where horse owners live, advised to take extreme measures of surveillance and protection of their animals and collaborate with neighbors to protect them.
