They extend parental leave for Buenos Aires state employees

This Thursday the Government of the Province of Buenos Aires signed a joint agreement with state unions to expand the maternity and paternity leave in the State of Buenos Aires and contribute to reducing gender inequalities.

The norm extended the days from 90 to 135 days per birth and from three to 15 days for the partner of the pregnant person. Adoption days are also extended and licenses are granted for assisted fertilization and for school adaptation.





The signing took place in the Golden Hall of the Interior and was headed by Governor Axel Kicillof. The state unions that participated in the agreement are ATE, CTA, UPCN, FEGEPPBA, AEMOPBA, APLA, AMS, CICOP, SSP, AMRA.

“It is a more modern regime and makes it consistent with the conquests of the time”, Kicillof assured during the act that he led together with the ministers and ministers of Labor, Mara Ruiz Malec; of health, Nicolas Kreplak; Women’s, Estela Diaz, and different representatives of the guilds.

Among the main changes, the measure of expansion of the “parental leave” – instead of “maternity” or “paternity” leave – it grants 45 extra days of leave before birth, which added to the current ones will provide a total of 135.

In the event of the birth of a disabled son or daughter, the license is extended to a total of 180 consecutive days. This may be divided or shared with your parental co-responsible, who is also extended from three to 15 days of leave.

Other special licenses are also contemplated: the new regime also extends the days for adoption from 90 to a period between 120 and 180, depending on the age of the minor and extends the license for death of the parental co-responsible, which goes from the current two or three days to a period of one to three months depending on the age of the minor son or daughter.

In addition, 15 days are added for the care of a sick family member, thus reaching 35 days. The new regime also includes an hourly license for school adaptation and add a day for licenses for particular matters, increase from five to six days in the year.

At the same time, it recognizes the days necessary to carry out the procedures of fertilization and assisted reproductive techniques with a limit of ten days a year and 20 more may be added without pay.
