The Biden administration has extended the national ban on evictions for a month to help tenants struggling to pay rent due to the pandemic crisis. While this was announced as a final extension, some lawmakers are asking for more time to allow renters access to the billions of emergency rental assistance included in the American Rescue Plan.
The California budget plan. California Governor Gavin Newsom is expected to sign a historic state budget today. Despite the devastation of the pandemic, this is the largest budget in the state’s history. Some lawmakers are urging the legislature to further expand Golden State stimulus checks and invest in outreach activities so that more working families benefit from California earned income tax credits. The Child Tax Credit. America’s Rescue Plan brought in the biggest tax credit for children and families by increasing the payment for children under the age of six and raising the age limit from 16 to 17.
