They express solidarity with Gómez Urrutia for the strike in Linamar

Mexico City. The United Steelworkers (USW) union of Canada and the United States expressed its solidarity with the workers who went on strike yesterday at the Linamar company, given the Canadian company’s refusal to negotiate a collective agreement (CCT) and recognize the National Miners’ Union as its leader.

In a letter to national mining leader and senator Napoleón Gómez Urrutia, the director of the international metalworkers union for Canada, Marty Warren, expressed his support for “bringing this conflict to the Canadian government” so that it can be resolved quickly.

Yesterday, at 7 o’clock sharp, workers placed the red and black flags at the automotive parts manufacturing plant, located in Gómez Palacio, Durango.

They accused that for six years their CCT has not been reviewed and instead the company insists on signing one with the employers’ union of the Autonomous Federation of Independent Trade Unionism in Mexico (FASIM).

Oscar Alzaga, former president of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers (ANAD), said that the strike is legal, since the National Miners’ Union is the only one that has a valid representative status.

“What the company is doing by imposing a protection union is illegal,” he reiterated.

The certificate of representation is an essential document issued by the Federal Center for Conciliation and Labor Registration (CFCRL), which accredits the leaders of organizations so that they can negotiate and sign a new collective agreement (CCT) with the company, in accordance with labor law.
