They expand pedestrian space in the streets of Rockefeller Center

The expansion of pedestrian space in the streets around Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall returns for these holidays.

This was announced by Mayor de Blasio, the NYPD and the Department of Transportation (DOT), given what they expect is a greater number of visitors.

Starting this Friday, the city plans to partially close to vehicular traffic on 49th and 50th streets between Fifth and Sixth avenues from 11 a.m. to midnight, every day.

Mobile barriers will be placed on the east side of Sixth Avenue between 48th and 52nd streets, eliminating one lane of traffic to create more pedestrian space.

Similarly, DOT officials recommend New Yorkers use public transportation.
